Salary: USD 210,000 - 234,000 / annual
Muon Space is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend team building the Mission Command platform—a consolidated interface for mission operations, customer-facing tools, and internal workflows. The team works in modern TypeScript and is establishing this platform as the canonical interface for managing LEO satellite constellations, scheduling contacts, and monitoring satellite operations at scale.
As manager, you will lead, mentor, and grow the Frontend team, owning hiring, performance management, coaching, and team composition. You'll define team goals and technical roadmaps aligned with company priorities, ensuring reliability, performance, and accessibility of experiences shipped to satellite operators, customers, and internal users. You'll work cross-functionally to translate mission needs into clear requirements and technical specifications, drive engineering best practices including design reviews and code quality, and manage team capacity and staffing.
Key responsibilities include promoting a culture of technical ownership and pragmatic delivery, building feedback loops with product and backend partners, and holding clear ownership boundaries so the team stays focused on high-quality, reliable user experiences.
Required qualifications: 5+ years software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineering teams in production systems. Direct experience managing a frontend, web, or product engineering team with hiring and performance management responsibilities. Strong technical background in frontend/web development with hands-on depth in TypeScript or similar strongly-typed languages and modern web application architecture. Demonstrated experience building complex web applications in production with reliability, performance, and accessibility requirements. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, static analysis, and code revision management in fast-moving teams. Ability to define technical direction and drive execution through prioritization, roadmap ownership, and stakeholder alignment. Strong communication skills and comfort partnering across engineering, product, and design.
Nice-to-have: experience with SSR, React Server Components, 3D applications, interactive mapping, geospatial visualization, accessibility-focused component libraries, frontend observability tooling, scaling frontend teams through rapid growth, and familiarity with aerospace or mission-critical domains.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose, CA.
