GitLab is seeking a technical engineering manager to lead the Dedicated Platform Integration team, responsible for integrating third-party and modular features into the GitLab ecosystem for Dedicated platform hosted SaaS. This is a hands-on management role combining deep technical expertise with operational excellence and team leadership.
Key responsibilities include enabling effective execution with quality and speed in partnership with the product manager; ensuring 3+ nines availability of Dedicated infrastructure while automating for scalability and tenant density; providing clear direction and meaningful feedback to foster a culture where toil is ruthlessly automated and DevOps ownership is enforced; continuously improving owned artifacts toward self-service production ownership for feature implementers; recruiting, onboarding, and developing excellent team members; serving as a role model through proof-of-concepts and agentic problem-solving; modeling incident management best practices and training the broader organization; and taking a data-driven approach to prioritization, impact quantification, and technical debt management.
Ideal candidates bring a proven track record building and owning large-scale distributed services with technical depth to guide architecture and strategy; experience driving operational excellence with services running at four-nines SLOs; hands-on experience leveraging AI tooling to boost team productivity; a history of building high-performing, accountable team cultures; comfort driving complex projects to completion independently; and experience leading distributed, remote teams effectively. The role requires someone who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical contribution, mentor engineers, and translate technical complexity for stakeholder decisions.
