Adyen is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Debit Card Payments platform for North America, based in Chicago. You will manage a team of software engineers responsible for building a competitive, high-throughput debit card payments platform optimized for least-cost routing and trusted by major enterprise merchants.
Key responsibilities include authoring Adyen's debit card payments strategy in NORAM, balancing product delivery with platform scalability and resilience. You will lead by example, coach and mentor a diverse engineering team, foster a high-performing culture grounded in ownership and collaboration, and partner closely with Product Managers to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions. You'll guide architectural discussions, champion engineering standards, and empower engineers to own technical solutions end-to-end.
You bring 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional engineering teams and 7+ years in software development in fast-paced tech environments. You have a strong background building large-scale, distributed systems in Java or similar backend technologies. You're comfortable jumping into architecture reviews, unblocking technical challenges, and guiding code reviews during complex releases. You thrive in cross-functional, globally distributed settings and communicate thoughtfully across regions and cultures.
Experience with payment systems or the cards payments ecosystem (authorization, routing, card schemes, issuer/acquirer integrations) is highly desirable. You enjoy leading technical discussions, facilitating architectural decisions, and balancing engineering quality with business priorities.
