Salary: USD 199,000 - 275,000 / annual
Chime is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Deals & Offers team, which builds member-facing deals, cashback, and merchant-offer experiences, plus the underlying platform infrastructure. This is a player-coach role combining people management with active technical contribution.
You will manage a group of engineers building both consumer experiences and backend systems that serve offers at scale. Key responsibilities include leading, hiring, and developing a high-performing engineering team; staying hands-on by writing and shipping code on high-leverage projects; reviewing pull requests and leading design reviews to raise quality standards; owning technical direction for the deals and offers surface from discovery to redemption; and partnering closely with Product, Design, and Analytics teams.
You will establish team objectives aligned with company priorities, drive architecture and technical decisions to keep the platform reliable and scalable, manage partner and merchant integrations, and ensure quality, performance, and operational health including on-call culture. The team also owns Chime Wireless, a 0-to-1 vertical product offering a rare opportunity to build a new business from the ground up.
Required qualifications include 2+ years of people management experience with hiring and development track record; current hands-on coding ability with desire to stay technical; fluency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor); strong technical foundation for architecture guidance; experience shipping consumer product features and running experimentation; experience with service-oriented architectures and backend platforms at scale; strong cross-functional collaboration skills; and deep empathy for engineers.
Familiarity with the stack (Ruby on Rails, React Native, AWS, distributed systems) and experience integrating with third-party partners is a plus. The role requires ability to motivate teams through aggressive schedules and goals.
