Salary: USD 290,000 - 330,000 / annual
Parafin is a Series C fintech company on a mission to grow small businesses by embedding capital and financial services into platforms like DoorDash, Amazon, and Worldpay. The company handles all complexity around capital markets, underwriting, servicing, and compliance, enabling small business users to access funding, spend management, and savings tools through platforms they already use.
The Data Platform team owns the systems that generate every capital product offer at Parafin, powering both batch and real-time underwriting across 60+ partners and multiple product lines. As Engineering Manager, you'll lead a team of 5-6 engineers across three tightly coupled areas: Data Platform (warehouse, ingestion, Airflow/Databricks infrastructure), Feature Store & ML Platform (feature materialization, model training/serving lifecycle), and Underwriting Platform (batch and real-time pipelines that generate offers).
Key responsibilities include managing and growing the team through hiring, mentorship, and career development; setting and driving technical strategy across data storage, ML infrastructure, and underwriting pipelines; staying hands-on by reviewing designs, unblocking technical problems, and driving architecture on high-priority initiatives; owning reliability and on-call for the team's systems; and partnering closely with underwriting data science and product engineering teams. You'll represent the team's roadmap and tradeoffs to cross-functional stakeholders including data science, product, and risk teams.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in technical leadership or engineering management, ideally in data infrastructure or ML platforms; strong understanding of modern data/lakehouse stacks (Spark, Databricks, Airflow, AWS); experience with ML infrastructure concepts including feature stores, model training/serving pipelines, and batch/real-time inference; track record of managing engineers with empathy and building high-ownership team culture; experience hiring to a high technical bar and growing engineers' careers; ability to navigate ambiguity across multiple technical domains and stakeholders; and excellent communication skills.
Nice-to-have: experience with Databricks ecosystem, startup experience, or fintech domain knowledge.
