Amplitude is a leading AI analytics platform serving over 4,700 customers including Atlassian, Burger King, NBCUniversal, and Square. The Data Connections team owns how data flows into and out of Amplitude—importing behavioral and customer data from cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery), cloud object storage (S3, Azure Blob Storage), and exporting enriched event data to warehouses, storage systems, streaming destinations, and advertising/marketing platforms.
As Engineering Manager for Data Connections, you will lead a team of approximately 10 engineers responsible for batch and streaming pipelines processing billions of events daily. The team maintains connections across dozens of customer-controlled systems, manages credentials and configuration securely, and meets strict latency and reliability targets that customers depend on. Recent initiatives include launching new warehouse export destinations, migrating import pipelines to a durable workflow engine, building low-latency streaming export, and supporting cross-region and cross-cloud customer storage.
You will report to the Head of Data Platform and own the roadmap, reliability, and team growth. Key responsibilities include setting direction with clear priorities and tradeoffs, leading and coaching engineers through hiring and career development, partnering with tech leads on architecture decisions, owning SLOs and cost efficiency, expanding the set of supported destinations and sources, collaborating across Product and Design teams, and engaging directly with significant customer onboardings and escalations.
The technical stack includes Java, Temporal, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform, DynamoDB, S3, and Snowflake, running on AWS and GCP. You should have 2+ years leading engineers as a manager or tech lead, 6+ years building backend/data/infrastructure systems, and hands-on experience with data integration, ETL/ELT, data warehouses, streaming, or batch processing at scale. Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure, a track record of improving reliability/latency/cost in production systems, and clear communication skills are essential.
