Truecaller is seeking an Engineering Manager for Data to lead a multidisciplinary team of ML engineers, data scientists, and data engineers. The company, trusted by over 450 million active users across 190+ countries, identifies 15 billion calls daily and is building core intelligence systems for calling, search, fraud detection, federated learning, and an AI Assistant. In this role, you will lead team growth and retention while setting technical direction for Truecaller's core intelligence stack. You'll own team planning, prioritization, and delivery, balancing near-term product commitments with long-term platform health. Key responsibilities include partnering with product and engineering teams to translate business goals into technical roadmaps, driving reuse through config-driven and composable platforms, and maintaining production reliability at scale for systems serving hundreds of millions of users. You will run regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations while recruiting and onboarding new talent. The role requires staying close to technical detail to make informed decisions, unblock your team, and earn credibility with senior ML engineers and data scientists. Required experience includes proven leadership of engineering or ML teams in ML-heavy domains (recommendations, ranking, ads, search), solid grasp of applied ML in production (retrieval, ranking, experimentation, model serving), working knowledge of backend and data engineering practices, strong leadership and communication skills, and a track record of delivering complex technical projects at scale. Preferred qualifications include hands-on background in ML engineering or backend development, familiarity with large-scale data platforms (Spark, Kafka, Airflow, feature stores), cloud infrastructure experience (GCP preferred), and experience scaling teams in high-growth environments.
