Stepful is a workforce platform training healthcare workers for America's largest health systems. Since 2021, Stepful has trained over 32,000 practice-ready healthcare professionals and partners with half of the top 10 US health systems including NY-Presbyterian, Mt. Sinai, HCA, Providence, CVS, and Walgreens. Backed by Y Combinator, Reach Capital, and AlleyCorp with a recent $55M Series C, Stepful was named the #1 EdTech company in the US by TIME for 2025.
You will lead Stepful's data function as Engineering Manager, Data, owning the infrastructure, analytics, and insights that power decisions across the company. You'll manage a team of three data analysts and engineers while remaining deeply hands-on: writing code, building models, and shipping analyses. As the company scales past 40,000 student graduates, the leverage of great data work is critical.
Key responsibilities include: leading and mentoring your data team while setting standards for rigor and craft; owning the end-to-end data platform (pipelines, warehouse, transformation layer, BI tooling) and ensuring reliability and scalability; defining and maintaining core metrics across the student journey (enrollment, engagement, completion, certification, placement) and business performance (CAC, LTV, retention); building dashboards and self-serve analytics; partnering with Growth and Product on experimentation design and A/B test analysis; delivering strategic analyses that shape program design and budget allocation; staying hands-on with production SQL and Python; and establishing data governance and quality practices.
You bring 7+ years of data experience across analytics and data engineering, with 2+ years managing a team. You're a proven player-coach who sets direction and manages people while shipping your own work. You have expert-level SQL, strong Python, and hands-on experience with the modern data stack (dbt, Snowflake/BigQuery, Airflow, Looker/Metabase). You possess strong product and business sense, connecting data work to outcomes. Experience designing and analyzing experiments in high-growth environments and exceptional communication skills are essential.
Bonus qualifications include building or scaling a data function at an early or growth-stage startup, marketing attribution or funnel analytics at scale, or experience in EdTech, healthcare, or mission-driven industries.
The role reports directly to the SVP, Engineering and partners closely with Growth, Product, Operations, and Finance. This is a hybrid opportunity requiring three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in the NYC office.
