HackerRank is seeking an Engineering Manager - Data to lead and grow the Data Engineering team while defining the technical vision for the company's data platform. This is a high-ownership leadership role combining platform architecture, data strategy, and team building.
In this role, you will own and drive the technical roadmap for the Data Engineering team on a quarterly basis, executing product plans with a strong focus on quality and timelines. You'll architect and build scalable backend systems, data pipelines, and infrastructure components aligned with 12-factor app principles. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing robust data warehouses and data strategies for SaaS products, defining clear quarterly goals for the team, and guiding execution to achieve measurable outcomes.
You will mentor engineers and help them deliver to the best of their abilities, setting clear career paths for team members and supporting their professional growth. You'll lead technical discussions and help engineers make critical architectural and design decisions, while partnering closely with the Product team to develop and curate the data and platform roadmap.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of software development experience with 2+ years of engineering leadership experience. You should have strong architecture and system design skills with experience building large-scale web services, hands-on experience designing and developing backend systems, data pipelines, and infrastructure components, and deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, especially AWS. Experience designing and building data warehouses and defining/executing a Data Strategy for SaaS products is essential. You should demonstrate strong technical leadership with the ability to drive critical technical discussions.
Bonus qualifications include knowledge of Kafka, Spark, and related data technologies, as well as experience with Python, Kubernetes, Docker, and modern deployment technologies. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy balancing hands-on technical contributions with people leadership, think strategically about long-term platform scalability while delivering short-term results, are comfortable operating in fast-paced evolving environments, and take ownership end-to-end from roadmap definition to execution and team growth.
