Adyen is seeking an Engineering Manager for Customer Interfaces in San Francisco to lead a high-performing team of individual contributors. You will own the end-to-end transformation of Adyen's merchant experience platform, evolving traditional dashboards into intelligent, streaming, and conversational financial interfaces.
In this role, you will define architectural vision and drive execution on dynamic UI components (Vue/Preact/TypeScript) and Java-based backend orchestration. You'll maintain deep technical roots while excelling at people development and pragmatic execution of complex problems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead hiring, onboarding, and continuous development of engineers in the SF hub
- Own broad architectural strategy for Customer Interfaces, translating system designs (Agentic workflows, Tool-use, Policy Layers) into structured engineering output
- Guide the team in building dynamic/agentic UI components that adapt in real time, backed by performant Java services
- Partner with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders on roadmap alignment
- Foster a culture of operational rigor around live performance, security, incident response, and post-mortem analysis
- Maintain close connection to codebase for meaningful architectural guidance and code reviews
- Serve as organizational node in San Francisco, driving documentation-first communication with global hubs
You are a pragmatic people leader who views team development as a core success metric. You have strong full-stack architecture background with proficiency in Java and modern frontend frameworks. You're familiar with production-grade LLM workflows, policy layers, and zero-trust security in regulated industries. You connect technical work to merchant outcomes and operate with high autonomy while collaborating across global time zones.
Minimum qualifications: 5+ years in formal engineering management or team leadership with proven track record of growing ICs and managing delivery; 10+ years total software engineering experience as Senior or Lead Full-Stack/Backend Engineer; proven technical depth in Java backend services and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.
