Salary: GBP 255,000 - 325,000 / annual
Anthropic is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Connectivity team based in London. The Connectivity team's mission is to make Claude the most connected AI by defining how AI agents safely access external systems with proper permissions and enterprise trust.
The team owns critical infrastructure including the MCP (Model Context Protocol) proxy that routes every tool call, OAuth and token management systems, and maintains official Python and TypeScript SDKs. They contribute to the MCP spec, now an open standard under the Linux Foundation, and ship features across claude.ai, Claude Code, Cowork, and the API.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers working on reliability-critical problems including token refresh at scale, admin controls for IT governance, and proxy infrastructure resilience. You'll work closely with engineering leadership and partner teams in San Francisco to set direction and deliver across both sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team building connectivity infrastructure powering tool use across Anthropic's product suite
- Hiring, coaching, and maintaining a high-performing team with an inclusive, equitable approach
- Providing career development guidance and mentorship to direct reports
- Partnering with San Francisco engineering leadership, product, security, and platform teams to define roadmap and create clarity in an evolving environment
- Driving cross-team alignment to ship work spanning multiple products and working effectively with US-based teams
- Establishing and driving adoption of engineering best practices, including operational rigor for on-call, incident response, and postmortems
- Contributing to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Anthropic's engineering management team
Required qualifications include experience managing software engineering teams (hiring, coaching, performance management), technical background in backend or platform engineering, experience operating production distributed systems at scale, excellent cross-timezone communication skills, and demonstrated success building cultures of belonging and engineering excellence.
Preferred qualifications include 3+ years as an engineering manager, familiarity with MCP or open standards/open source, experience leading distributed teams, knowledge of OAuth/token management/identity systems, experience with API gateways/proxies/multi-tenant platforms, enterprise customer experience, and AI/ML product experience.
