Scopely is hiring an Engineering Manager, Client (Unity) to lead a team of experienced engineers developing the client for an unannounced cross-platform Strategy/MMO title. The role is based in Barcelona, Spain on a hybrid basis (3 days per week in office), with visa sponsorship and relocation support available.
You will lead and manage a team of game engineers focused on developing and maintaining the game client. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing new features in collaboration with stakeholder teams, proposing improvements to development processes and workflows to increase efficiency and quality, conducting code reviews and 1-1s to enhance team skills and development culture, and serving as the quality gate for all code entering the game. You'll work closely with QA to resolve bugs, contribute directly to the codebase, and collaborate with stakeholders to identify optimal technical solutions. The role emphasizes leveraging AI tools and agentic workflows in daily work—from tech planning and code generation to exploring novel solutions.
Required qualifications include prior experience technically leading or managing a team of any size, proven ability to engage and motivate people, professional experience on game client features or related areas, familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, and strong experience working with multiple stakeholders. You must have strong technical skills in at least one of: game engines, rendering engines, networking, physics, AI, or audio. Excellent programming skills in C# or C++ are essential, along with mobile and/or PC game development experience. Additional requirements include experience with version control, build tools, deployment pipelines, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Codex, Claude Code) and understanding of agentic workflows.
Bonus qualifications include automated testing and continuous integration experience, cloud technologies for game development, and knowledge of game design principles and UX.
