GitLab is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Build team within GitLab Delivery. This role is accountable for the strategy, execution, and operational excellence of the systems that transform GitLab source code into secure, verified, and distributable artifacts for Self-Managed and other delivery targets.
You will own the build platform foundations that enable faster, more consistent, and more self-service component delivery for development teams, while ensuring artifacts are reliable for customers to install and operate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Build team roadmap across UBT, TUBE, and the broader build platform
- Owning delivery of GitLab distributable artifacts (packages, container images, cloud marketplace images)
- Driving a build-once, deploy-everywhere model across Omnibus, CNG, and future delivery targets
- Leading centralized dependency management and coordinated dependency updates
- Ensuring supply chain security through SBOMs, provenance, vetted dependencies, and compliant build isolation
- Creating self-service onboarding paths with standard CI templates and documentation
- Improving build quality and consistency through unified build environments
- Establishing observability, dashboards, and metrics for build pipelines
- Partnering across Delivery and adjacent teams to reduce coordination overhead
Required experience:
- Proven track record building and owning large-scale distributed services with technical depth to guide team strategy
- Experience driving operational excellence with services running at four-nines (99.99%) SLOs
- Experience leveraging AI tooling to boost team productivity
- History of building and managing high-performing, accountable team cultures
- Comfort driving complex projects to completion independently
- Experience leading distributed and remote teams effectively
