Homeward is a fast-paced, remote-first real estate fintech startup founded in 2018 by Tim Heyl. The company creates financial products that give homebuyers and sellers certainty and convenience—bundled cash offers, mortgage, and title services across 13 states. You will lead a team of 3–4 software engineers in the Acquisition vertical, owning the consistent, timely delivery of quality features and products. Your responsibilities include validating that shipped work actually solves customer and operator problems, fostering a build-test-learn culture with practical MVPs and rapid iteration, and cultivating fluid cross-stack collaboration to minimize handoff delays.
A key focus is setting team norms around AI-assisted development—helping engineers adopt Claude, Copilot, and similar tools for prototyping, code review, debugging, and documentation while maintaining a high quality bar. You'll coach team members on where AI genuinely helps versus where it doesn't, adapt processes as AI changes velocity, and use metrics to inform those decisions.
Additional responsibilities include championing strong engineering practices, working with product managers on requirements and prioritization, owning business metrics alongside cross-functional partners, and helping the team navigate ambiguity with clear judgment.
You bring 2+ years of front-line management experience in high-growth organizations, 5+ years as an individual contributor, and demonstrable front-end or full-stack experience. You have a track record of adopting AI-assisted development and turning it into real throughput. You're fluent enough with AI-powered features (LLM APIs, RAG, AI-driven automation) to scope, estimate, and make architecture calls credibly. You've worked with both monoliths and microservices and can help determine when each is appropriate. You communicate clearly in writing and verbally, keep distributed teams aligned, and own delivery of the right solutions at high quality. Bonus: Python web dev ecosystem experience (Flask, Django, Celery).
