Socket.dev is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead and scale their engineering team. The company helps developers and security teams ship faster by automating security workflows around open source code management. In this role, you'll lead a high-performing engineering team while staying deeply engaged with technical work. Rather than top-down direction, you'll facilitate productive technical discussions, build alignment across stakeholders, and create conditions for engineers to do their best work. You'll partner with engineering and go-to-market teams to ensure the team solves the right problems, help reason through architectural trade-offs, and balance long-term technical investments with near-term execution.
Key responsibilities include: building a culture of trust and ownership where engineers are empowered to make decisions; staying engaged with technical decisions without needing to make every call yourself; improving processes and identifying bottlenecks; bringing clarity to ambiguous problems; and maintaining a high bar for engineering quality while enabling speed.
You should have experience leading engineering teams in fast-moving, ambiguous environments. Strong technical judgment is essential—you'll engage deeply in architectural discussions and understand trade-offs. Comfort with TypeScript/JavaScript is a plus but not required; strong fundamentals matter more. You'll need product sense (ability to talk directly to customers and shape product direction), excellent communication to keep teams informed and aligned, and experience managing remote or globally-distributed teams.
