Preply is a unicorn edtech platform (Series D, $150M) that connects 100,000+ tutors teaching 90+ languages to learners in 180 countries. The company is building scalable, reliable applications using Python/Django with a strong focus on data, A/B testing, and AI-augmented development. Engineering teams release code 50–60 times per day and have achieved 90%+ adoption of AI coding tools. You'll join as an Engineering Manager leading one of two high-impact tribes: Growth (owns the learner discovery, conversion, engagement, and retention journey) or Monetization (owns the economic engine including subscriptions, bookings, payments, pricing, and tutor business tools). Key responsibilities include: - Lead and grow high-performing engineering teams with a focus on ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence - Coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, mentorship, and career development while fostering psychological safety - Define long-term vision and strategy for your teams, ensuring alignment with company objectives and product priorities - Identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities in partnership with Product, Data, and Design - Own execution and delivery, balancing speed, quality, and reliability - Provide technical leadership on system design and architectural decisions - Champion engineering best practices and drive continuous improvements in code quality and operational excellence - Collaborate cross-functionally across the broader business to maximize impact You'll need 3–5+ years of experience building and scaling development teams, strong people-centric leadership skills, solid technical judgment and systems thinking, comfort working closely with Product/Design/Data partners, a results-oriented track record, and ethical leadership that demonstrates empathy, transparency, and accountability.
