Customer.io is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a squad building customer-facing product and workflows or distributed systems infrastructure. You will manage a team of engineers, drive execution from planning through delivery, and own projects end-to-end while staying deeply involved in technical decisions.
Key responsibilities include: leading your squad to deliver customer value; setting milestones and shipping in small, observable increments; making confident decisions in ambiguous situations; establishing operating rhythms that maximize team velocity; ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and well-architected; staying close to design reviews, architecture calls, and incidents; providing direct coaching and creating development opportunities for direct reports; hiring and managing performance; bringing AI-native practices to accelerate team velocity; and partnering across engineering and other departments.
You should have 3+ years managing engineers at a SaaS company (B2B or B2C), ideally early-to-mid-stage. A strong technical background is essential—you can hold your own in architecture conversations, represent your squad's technical choices, and have shipped real work recently. You operate with high autonomy, create clarity in unstructured environments, and make difficult tradeoffs between competing priorities. You demonstrate AI-native leadership by bringing AI-first practices into how your team builds. You excel at building high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative teams with clear, direct communication.
