Convex is building a new platform abstraction to support agentic development and the next generation of application workloads. The company has assembled a world-class team of engineers who have built some of the largest platforms globally, and is now hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the teams shaping the Convex developer and agent experience. In this role, you will manage and grow teams spanning product experience, developer APIs, agent frameworks, integrations, and the component system that makes Convex effortless to build with. This is not a hands-off management position. You'll stay deeply technical, contributing to architecture decisions, code reviews, and technical direction while helping engineers understand the "why" behind what they're building. You'll give engineers real ownership, develop their judgment on quality standards, and hold them to a high bar where "it technically works" is never the finish line. Key responsibilities include: managing and growing product experience teams with real ownership and high standards; developing a strong understanding of developer and agent needs to inform priority tradeoffs; working closely with the CTO and product lead on alignment and strategy; staying hands-on with architecture and technical decisions; designing developer-facing surfaces alongside your teams; and providing direct feedback and having difficult conversations when needed. The ideal candidate has deep experience building and shipping high-quality developer-facing products or tools, ideally at a technical or developer tools company. You have a proven track record of growing engineers and building strong teams, not just shipping software. You're genuinely interested in how AI is changing software development and have a point of view on what developers and agents need from a platform. You have strong product sensibility, comfort with prioritization across a broad surface area, and experience in fast-moving environments where requirements shift. The role requires in-person work at Convex's San Francisco office, though the company has flexibility for experienced remote team members in certain situations. Convex values deeply technical managers who never stopped being engineers, who develop people rather than just shipping software, who obsess over craft and the details that separate good from great, and who are pragmatic about simplicity and tradeoffs.
