Salary: USD 163,000 - 263,670 / annual
LaunchDarkly is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the AgentControl Evaluations team, a critical part of their core product focused on offline evaluations, playgrounds, LLM-as-judges, and annotated datasets. The AgentControl platform manages the complete software development lifecycle for shipping AI agents to production, from configuration and benchmarking to observability and optimization.
In this role, you will lead a team of backend and infrastructure engineers building distributed systems that power AI evaluations at scale. The team primarily works in Go, Python, and TypeScript, leveraging AWS, CockroachDB, and Datadog. You'll balance people management with technical leadership, driving the development of multiple services while fostering a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture.
Key responsibilities include: leading and developing engineers with coaching and career growth opportunities; partnering with Product Management and Design to scope and sequence roadmap items; owning feature delivery within timelines and quality standards; collaborating with adjacent teams (AI Agents, Observability, Feature Management) on shared infrastructure; communicating roadmaps and risks to leadership and stakeholders; building team norms that promote collaboration and reduce silos; driving operational excellence in reliability, observability, and incident response; and participating in hiring to grow the team.
Required qualifications: 3+ years software engineering experience with at least 2 years managing backend or infrastructure engineers; proven ability to partner with Product Management and translate business goals into engineering plans with reliable estimates; strong communication skills for distributed, cross-timezone teams; track record of coaching, developing, and managing engineers; familiarity with observability practices (metrics, tracing, alerting, structured logging) and production incident response; familiarity with AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Bedrock, Gemini) and tooling (Langchain, Arize); experience with Go and Python or comparable backend languages is a plus.
