Tide is a fintech platform serving over 2 million SMEs globally with business banking, invoicing, and accounting solutions. The company operates across the UK, India, Germany, and France with 2,800+ employees and has raised over $300 million.
The Accounts Platform team is the core financial infrastructure layer at Tide, owning the ledger (single source of truth for member money), account opening, regulatory compliance, statements, and account lifecycle management. This team operates across multiple markets with different banking partners and regulatory regimes.
The company is restructuring the Accounts team by carving out the ledger into a dedicated high-criticality system. You will lead the full Accounts team (9 engineers: backend, mobile, web) through this transition, then move to lead the new Ledger Team post-split.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the Accounts team through the ledger split, including mapping engineers to teams and sequencing the transition
- Define the technical seam between ledger and account opening/lifecycle/statements teams
- Set engineering direction for the Ledger Team: performance, availability, consistency, long-term architecture
- Own system stability and operational reliability: SLOs, observability, on-call practices
- Partner with product, compliance, and operations to ensure accuracy, supportability, and compliance across all markets
- Grow engineers at all levels from early-career through senior
- Align with other engineering managers on cross-cutting infrastructure decisions
Required experience:
- Meaningful engineering management experience leading teams through real delivery
- Solid backend engineering foundation with credibility to engage in technical detail
- Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams across time zones
- Proven track record aligning with senior leadership on deliveries and partnering with product
- Fintech or banking domain experience with understanding of regulatory requirements and correctness-critical systems
- Strong grasp of high-volume distributed systems
The ledger underpins every payment and balance check across all markets and must be engineered to financial-system standards: fault tolerant, highly available, operationally rigorous. This is hands-on technical leadership, not process management.
