Tide is a fintech platform serving over 2 million SMEs globally with business banking, invoicing, and accounting solutions. The company operates across the UK, India, Germany, and France with 2,800+ employees and has raised over $300 million.
The Accounts Platform team is the core financial infrastructure layer at Tide, owning the ledger (single source of truth for member money), account opening, regulatory compliance, statements, and account lifecycle management. This team operates across multiple jurisdictions with different banking partners and regulatory regimes.
Tide is restructuring the Accounts team by carving out the ledger into a dedicated, high-criticality system. The ledger currently shares a team with account opening, lifecycle management, and compliance. As the company has scaled across more markets and complexity, the ledger requires dedicated engineering focus with its own team, SLOs, on-call practice, and technical roadmap.
You will join as Engineering Manager to lead the full Accounts team (9 engineers: backend, mobile, web) through this transition. Working alongside experienced staff-level ICs, you will help design the technical seam between the two teams, determine engineer allocation, and build the organizational and technical foundation for both. Post-split, you will lead the Ledger Team.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the Accounts team through the ledger split, including shaping team composition and sequencing the transition
- Define the technical seam: ledger writes, consistency guarantees, schema ownership versus account opening, lifecycle, and statements
- Set engineering direction for the Ledger Team: performance, availability, consistency, and long-term architecture
- Own system stability and operational reliability: SLOs, observability, on-call practices
- Partner with product, compliance, and operations teams to ensure accuracy, supportability, and compliance across all markets
- Grow engineers at all levels from early-career through senior
- Align with other engineering managers on cross-cutting infrastructure decisions
The ledger underpins every payment, balance check, and statement across all markets. It must be engineered to financial-system standards: fault-tolerant, highly available, operationally rigorous. This is hands-on technical leadership, not process management.
