Qover is a $70M-funded insurtech scale-up with 160+ employees based in Brussels, operating a platform that powers embedded insurance experiences across 32 European countries for brands like Revolut, Mastercard, BMW, and Monzo. You will lead a core product engineering team as both a people manager and hands-on technical contributor (player-coach). You are accountable for your team's delivery, technical quality, production ownership, and growth in partnership with Product and Design. You stay close to the code, customer problems, and operational reality—not operating as a detached architect. Key responsibilities include: **Team Leadership & Delivery**: Partner with Product to translate priorities into realistic delivery plans. Mentor and develop engineers through consistent feedback and coaching. Build a high-trust culture with psychological safety and accountability. Champion execution while maintaining predictable, high-quality shipping cadence. **Technical Excellence**: Maintain hands-on engagement with the codebase to provide credible technical guidance. Own your team's standards for code quality, automated testing, security, privacy, observability, and maintainability. Lead blameless post-mortems and drive structural fixes to technical debt. Balance speed, security, and quality pragmatically. **AI-Assisted Engineering**: Champion pragmatic integration of AI tools (coding agents, etc.) within your team. Identify high-impact applications while establishing clear guardrails. Mentor engineers to ensure human accountability for security and quality remains paramount. Foster a culture where AI is used intentionally for implementation, debugging, and documentation—never blindly accepting output. **Cross-functional Collaboration**: Act as the technical counterpart to Product Managers. Provide technical perspective during refinement to translate requirements into robust solutions. Connect with Designers on usability/feasibility trade-offs. Articulate technical trade-offs to stakeholders with focus on practical outcomes. **Operational Resilience**: Reduce operational toil and recurring bugs. Integrate shared platform capabilities and security best practices. Empower engineers to become confident decision-makers, reducing reliance on any single individual. You will initially lead one of Qover's core product engineering teams, potentially the Policy Management Platform or another strategic domain within the insurance platform.
