Monk is an AI-native accounts receivable (AR) platform for B2B companies, helping businesses get paid faster. The company is rebuilding the broken AR stack—currently dominated by spreadsheets and decade-old software—with AI, speed, and engineering craftsmanship. Monk already processes over $1B in accounts receivable and is backed by leading investors with founders who bring significant fintech experience.
In this role, you will own Monk's Financial Systems end-to-end, including technical direction, architecture, delivery, quality, and leadership of an engineering team. You will solve critical fintech problems that directly impact revenue and cash flow, build product and engineering roadmaps alongside customers and founders, and lead a small pod of engineers to ship fast.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and operating systems that connect to Monk's platform: ERPs, accounting platforms, banking data, payment providers, APIs, and other data sources
- Serving enterprise customers processing billions in revenue, unblocking strategic accounts and accelerating go-lives
- Designing and executing complex projects end-to-end (architecture, implementation, rollout, monitoring, telemetry) using TypeScript, Temporal, and Postgres
- Leading a small engineering team: setting priorities, writing technical plans, reviewing code, raising quality standards, and mentoring engineers
- Building software factories and autonomous agents to accelerate team productivity and enable 10x faster shipping
- Working directly with customers, GTM, and founders to build and maintain financial systems supporting enterprise deployments

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years building and operating production backend systems (built, broken, and scaled them yourself)
- Experience leading a team of engineers
- Experience building APIs, data processing pipelines, and event-driven systems
- Strong experience with Postgres, AWS, data pipelines, and observability
- Comfortable with agentic workflows, AI tooling, and orchestration systems
- AI-native: daily use of coding agents as your primary development driver
- Owner mentality: you fix problems and prevent recurrence, not just file tickets
- Excited to work in-person in Flatiron, NYC
BONUS:
- Fintech or payments data systems experience
- Backend infrastructure experience for LLM or agent products
- Founding or early backend hire experience
