Flock is an AI-first insurtech company that uses telematics and real-time data to help fleet customers prevent crashes and improve driver safety. Recently acquired by Admiral (May 2026), Flock combines startup agility with the backing of the UK's leading motor insurer.
You'll lead the Acquisition team as an Engineering Lead, owning delivery, technical quality, and developer experience. This is a hands-on technical leadership role—you'll ship production TypeScript code while providing technical coaching and mentorship to engineers around you. You won't manage people directly; instead, you'll lead by example through code, design discussions, and pairing.
Key responsibilities include:
• Own delivery and technical direction for the Acquisition team, working closely with the PM to ship features that drive growth and help fleets discover Flock.
• Write high-quality, well-tested TypeScript and own end-to-end production delivery.
• Translate business goals into clear technical scope, success metrics, and delivery plans in partnership with product and stakeholders.
• Mentor and coach engineers to raise standards, improve technical direction, and foster shared ownership.
• Drive improvements to developer experience, CI/CD, observability, and release practices.
• Make pragmatic trade-offs balancing reliability, performance, and cost across AWS services.
• Shape how the team adopts AI tools and coding agents to ship faster without compromising quality.
You'll work with modern serverless architecture (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch), RESTful APIs, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CDK. Success is measured not by your individual output but by the output, quality, and growth of your entire team.
Essential qualifications: proven ability to co-lead alongside a PM with joint ownership of delivery and outcomes; strong hands-on TypeScript engineering; significant AWS and serverless experience; pragmatic approach to technical decisions; track record of raising engineering standards; strong communication and stakeholder management; experience improving developer experience and delivery cadence; confident daily use of AI development tools.
