Flock is an AI-first insurtech company that uses telematics and real-time data to help fleet customers prevent crashes and improve driver safety. Recently acquired by Admiral (May 2026), Flock combines startup velocity with the backing of the UK's leading motor insurer. You'll lead the Acquisition team as an Engineering Lead, owning delivery, technical quality, and developer experience. This is a hands-on technical leadership role—you'll ship production TypeScript code while providing technical coaching and mentorship to engineers around you, not traditional line management. You'll work closely with the PM to translate business goals into clear technical scope and delivery plans, directly impacting how fleets discover and choose Flock. Key responsibilities include: • Own end-to-end delivery and technical direction for the Acquisition team, co-leading with the PM to ship growth-driving features. • Write and maintain high-quality, well-tested TypeScript code; set the standard for the team. • Lead by example through code reviews, design discussions, and pair programming; mentor engineers to raise technical standards. • Improve developer experience, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and release practices across the team. • Make pragmatic trade-offs balancing reliability, performance, and cost across AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch). • Shape how the team adopts AI tools and coding agents, keeping engineering judgment where it matters. • Collaborate with Product, Engineering Leadership, and stakeholders to define sharply scoped, impactful deliverables. You'll need proven ability to co-lead alongside a PM with joint ownership of outcomes. Strong hands-on engineering skills in TypeScript and significant AWS/serverless experience are essential. You should have a track record of raising engineering standards as a force-multiplier, improving delivery cadence, and confidently using AI development tools daily while helping teams adopt them without compromising quality. Strong communication skills and experience aligning technical direction with senior stakeholders are important.
