Okta's Engineering Architect team is a small group of very senior engineers reporting to the VP of Engineering Excellence. This role offers the opportunity to significantly shape Auth0's technology direction and future. You will work broadly across the organization in collaboration with Engineering, Product, and Security teams, partnering deeply on large projects and providing architectural guidance for smaller initiatives. Key responsibilities include collaborating with Product, Security, and Engineering to define and continuously improve Auth0's technology stack and architecture. You will foster innovation in the IAM space with a strong focus on Agentic Identity, lead initiatives to enhance and scale Auth0's product offerings, and embed within Engineering teams for large projects while providing lighter-touch guidance for smaller initiatives. You'll design, architect, and document large-scale distributed systems, lead development of complex functionality across services and components, and teach through hands-on coding and optimization of Node.js and Go applications. You will implement features using AWS, Azure, Node.js, Go, MongoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes. The role involves investigating and resolving bottlenecks in scalability, resource efficiency, and maintaining 99.99% uptime SLA. You'll drive technical decision-making, mentor engineers throughout the organization, participate in Engineering Leadership Team discussions, and join the Incident Commander on-call rotation for high-severity incidents. Required qualifications include 10+ years of software development experience, 5+ years with cloud applications, and expertise with API-first applications using REST and/or gRPC. You must have a passion for building and operating secure, reliable systems at scale, knowledge of Identity Protocols (OAuth, OIDC, SAML), and industry knowledge of Authorization and Authentication spaces. Experience building AI Agents and/or MCP servers applications is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, mastery of distributed systems development, experience with multi-cloud environments and Kubernetes in AWS/Azure, and knowledge of application security and cloud security best practices are essential.
