Shield AI is seeking an Engineer II for Future Concepts to develop technology-driven concepts for Hivemind autonomous systems applications across air, space, land, and maritime domains. In this role, you will translate emerging customer needs, operational challenges, and technology trends into compelling, technically credible concepts and mission-oriented use cases for autonomous systems.
Key responsibilities include producing concept studies, analytical reports, white papers, RFIs, proposals, and other high-quality technical artifacts to explore how future capabilities could create value. You will use quantitative programming and analysis tools to organize data, build models, and communicate results effectively. You'll generate and deliver clear technical briefings for internal and external audiences, adapting complex material for both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Collaboration is central to the role—you will work closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Go-To-Market teams to align future concepts with technical roadmaps and early-stage product development. You'll monitor developments in aerospace, defense, autonomy, robotics, and related technologies to identify new opportunities and challenges. Travel to customer sites as needed to support engagements, gather insights, and present concepts and analysis.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, operations research, data science, or another relevant quantitative field, plus 2+ years of experience in engineering, technical analysis, concept development, modeling and simulation, product management, or a related area. You must demonstrate ability to use qualitative and quantitative analysis to support technical decision-making, explain complex material clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences, and possess strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Experience with at least one quantitative programming, modeling, or analysis tool (Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar) is required, along with familiarity with aerospace, autonomy, robotics, or defense systems. Ability to obtain and maintain a USG security clearance is mandatory.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in a relevant quantitative or technical field, experience developing novel concepts and analytical artifacts, familiarity with trade studies and structured approaches to comparing technical alternatives, experience briefing customers and decision-makers, and prior military operations or defense-industry experience.
