OpenAI's Global Affairs team is seeking an Engagement and Outreach Lead to build trusted, long-term relationships with third-party organizations, civic leaders, and mission-aligned networks. Reporting to the U.S. Partnerships Lead, you'll develop and execute proactive engagement strategies that strengthen OpenAI's presence across education, workforce development, technology policy, civic, and public-interest ecosystems.
Key responsibilities include: developing engagement strategies that cultivate relationships with community groups, parent organizations, workforce organizations, educators, youth programs, unions, consumer advocates, and technology policy organizations; serving as a visible ambassador for OpenAI at public forums, conferences, convenings, and media collaborations; building durable partnerships that advance shared goals in education, workforce development, AI safety, and mental health; establishing feedback loops between community partners and OpenAI's internal teams (Policy, Safety, Product, Legal, Communications, OpenAI Academy); designing and overseeing multi-stakeholder pilots that test AI use cases for public benefit; leading program scoping, partner recruitment, budgets, and impact measurement; and collaborating across OpenAI to ensure community input informs product development, safety practices, and external narratives.

You should inspire and develop diverse teams, communicate complex technical and policy concepts compellingly to diverse audiences, embrace cross-functional collaboration, and be willing to travel frequently. The role requires 8–10+ years of experience in partnerships, public engagement, or external affairs with a track record of leading large-scale initiatives; demonstrated success cultivating relationships across sectors (community, government, nonprofit, labor, philanthropic); excellent public speaking, facilitation, and media engagement skills; strong organizational and project management capabilities; cultural fluency and empathy; and active listening skills that earn trust across diverse audiences.
