Meta's Global Energy Team is seeking an experienced energy professional to lead the origination and commercial development of behind-the-meter (BTM) onsite generation solutions for data center capacity deployment. This role owns the full lifecycle of generation deals: identifying and building relationships with independent power producers and equipment manufacturers, validating that technologies meet company requirements, confirming supporting fundamentals (gas supply, land, water, permitting), and structuring and executing commercial agreements including power purchase agreements (PPAs) that deliver reliable, cost-competitive power outside traditional grid interconnection timelines.
Key responsibilities include serving as a subject matter expert on BTM generation technologies (natural gas turbines, reciprocating engines, fuel cells), leading identification and negotiation of commercial arrangements with IPPs and developers, and evaluating generation technologies for reliability, output, cost, and deployment fit. The role requires assessing deal feasibility by confirming gas supply, land, water, and permitting pathways; developing total-cost-of-ownership frameworks ($/MWh and $/kW-month); and conducting commercial and technical due diligence with legal counsel to manage stranded-asset risk.
The Energy Manager will partner with design and engineering teams on equipment standardization, work with site selection teams on powered-land opportunities, and support downstream delivery, permitting, and construction teams through commercial operation. Responsibilities also include supporting operational integration of commissioned assets, tracking realized performance against pro forma, and collaborating across engineering, design, construction, site development, sustainability, network planning, policy, communications, legal, and finance teams. Approximately 25% domestic travel required.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, energy, or related discipline; 10+ years in power project development, generation asset delivery, or commercial energy with direct onsite/distributed generation involvement; demonstrated experience structuring and negotiating commercial energy agreements (PPAs) from origination through execution; experience with gas turbines, reciprocating engines, fuel cells, or similar BTM technologies; involvement across multiple project lifecycle phases (origination, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation); working knowledge of air permitting, environmental compliance, and utility interconnection processes; ability to represent business interests to suppliers, utilities, government agencies, and regulators; and proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs.
