Flatpay, one of Europe's fastest-growing fintech companies, is seeking an Employee Relations Specialist to join its UK operations. This is a full-time, in-office role based in London, reporting to the Senior People Partner.
You will own and manage the day-to-day employee relations caseload for the UK while proactively shaping the policies, frameworks, and manager capability that prevent issues from arising. Key responsibilities include:
• Owning the complete ER policy suite (conduct, grievance, absence, capability), reviewing and updating policies proactively in response to employment law changes, case precedent, or business needs.
• Managing grievances and disciplinaries end-to-end: conducting investigations, chairing hearings, drafting outcome letters, and managing performance improvement plans with consistency and fairness.
• Owning the sickness and absence process end-to-end, stepping in on long-term or complex cases, managing occupational health referrals, and ensuring reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act.
• Partnering with external legal counsel (Neathouse Partners) on live cases and horizon-scanning for new legislation, tribunal trends, and emerging risks.
• Designing and delivering manager capability programmes that build lasting confidence in handling conduct, absence, and performance conversations early.
• Analysing caseload trends quarterly and presenting data-led findings and recommended interventions to the Senior People Partner.
• Building and maintaining a case management framework that is consistent, auditable, and scalable as the business grows.
You will be calm, fair, and decisive under pressure, comfortable owning a busy caseload and moving it at pace. You are solution-led, escalating with clear options and a strong read on cost and risk. You are credible at coaching managers, building their capability rather than simply taking cases off their hands. You are comfortable presenting data-led insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Flatpay values how people work as much as what they achieve: bringing energy and respect to work, taking ownership, challenging ideas commercially, setting bold goals, and letting the best argument win regardless of title.
Requirements:
• Solid ER experience owning cases end-to-end (grievances, disciplinaries, sickness and absence) in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience shaping or owning ER policy, not just applying it.
• Strong, current knowledge of UK employment law with the judgement to apply it commercially.
• Confident drafting investigation reports, outcome letters, and PIPs to a high standard.
• Familiarity with occupational health, reasonable adjustments, and settlement or protected conversations (preferred).
• Experience in a high-volume, sales-led, or fast-scaling business (preferred).
• Fluent in English.
• Right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available).
