Wordsmith is a legal operations platform serving in-house legal teams at companies like Financial Times, Canva, and Starling. The company is backed by $100M from Index Ventures and General Catalyst and is building AI-powered tools to help legal teams move faster and reduce external counsel spend.
You will own the design and implementation of Wordsmith's employee platform—the systems that provision, support, and secure every employee end-to-end. Rather than treating IT as a back-office function, Wordsmith treats internal IT as a product with employees as users. Your mission is to automate the function so it scales on tooling and automation, not headcount.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build a fully automated joiner pipeline that reads new hires from Humaans, creates identities in Okta, assigns app access by group rules, and triggers zero-touch laptop enrollment in Jamf with no manual intervention.
- Develop a Slack assistant backed by a coding agent that handles employee requests like access provisioning or device troubleshooting, resolving most issues without human involvement.
- Design and implement a hardware vending machine for the Edinburgh office that dispenses equipment (chargers, dongles, headsets, loan laptops) against employee identity, with automatic stock reordering.
- Write scripts and infrastructure-as-code to configure devices, enforce security baselines, and generate compliance evidence automatically.
- Build an offboarding flow that revokes access across all systems, wipes and reclaims devices, and files records automatically when employees leave.
Success in the first year means: zero-touch onboarding within six months; self-service resolution of the top twenty IT requests within nine months; fully automated joiner/mover/leaver workflows within twelve months; internal tooling and coding agent workflows that remove manual steps; and a managed fleet that generates SOC 2 evidence automatically.
You are not a traditional IT support person—you are a builder. You might come from a software engineering background seeking broad system ownership, DevOps/SRE/platform engineering experience, a smaller company or MSP where you've wired up tools and scripted away manual work, or a strong IT background where you already code and automate rather than use consoles. What matters is the instinct to automate anything you do twice and to build the tool rather than do the task.
You will work on-site in Edinburgh, reporting into Security, with hands-on involvement in the physical fleet and office setup. This is a high-trust environment with light process and a bias toward shipping.
REQUIREMENTS:
- You write real code and automate with APIs and scripts (Python, Bash, or TypeScript required).
- You think in systems: identity, access, data flows, and lifecycle.
- You are comfortable using AI coding agents to build and ship tooling fast.
- You care about security and doing things properly, not just quickly.
- You are happy working on-site in Edinburgh and hands-on with real hardware.
BONUS:
- Exposure to identity and device tooling (Okta, Google Workspace, Jamf).
- Experience with SOC 2 or security compliance.
- Prior experience running or automating onboarding, endpoints, or internal tools.
