Salary: USD 144,000 - 198,000 / annual
Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. The company is seeking an EMC Design Engineer to support the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) aspects of aircraft systems and components.
In this role, you will design, analyze, and test EMI filters for various Archer products, providing recommendations on component value selection, board layout guidelines, orientation strategies, and grounding approaches. You will perform in-depth circuit and finite element method (FEM) simulations to evaluate emissions, susceptibility, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and lightning strike scenarios. A key responsibility is collaborating with electrical, power electronics, and mechanical engineering teams to deliver detailed EMC recommendations for PCB board layout, cable shielding, enclosure design, and grounding strategies.
You will work closely with EMC test engineers to design, test, and certify Archer products against aerospace standards including DO-160G and MIL-461G. This includes coordinating with external EMC test laboratories for aircraft-level and pre-compliance/compliance testing.
Required qualifications include a strong background in EMI analysis and simulation of power electronics and electric circuits. You must be proficient with circuit simulation tools (MATLAB, PLECS, PSIM) and Ansys electromagnetic tools (Q3D, SIWave, HFSS, Maxwell). Detailed understanding of EMC test equipment—LISNs, antennas, BCI probes, EMI test receivers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and impedance analyzers—is essential. Familiarity with relevant standards (DO-160, MIL-461, CISPR 12/16/25/32, UN ECE Regulation 10, FCC Part 15/18) is required.
Bonus qualifications include prior EMC pre-compliance and certification experience in aerospace (DO-160 or MIL-461) or automotive (FCC or UN ECE Regulation 10) industries, detailed understanding of signal integrity and power integrity (SI/PI) design and simulation, and experience with active EMI filter analysis, design, and testing.
