REGENT is building Seagliders—wing-in-ground-effect craft that travel just above water at 180 mph with 180-mile range on current battery technology. The company is scaling from prototype to full production and seeking an Embedded Systems Software Engineer to contribute to the Seaglider product family's development and certification.
In this role, you will develop and maintain real-time embedded software across the Seaglider platform, from microcontroller code to Linux-based applications. You'll support the development of simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments for controls software verification, coordinating with controls, avionics, and modeling teams. You'll manage the COTS electronics ecosystem—sensors, servos, single-board computers, harnesses, and breakout boards—and improve developer tools and build automation to streamline deployment and certification processes. A significant part of the role involves field testing: you'll be part of the sea trials team, monitoring operations, running diagnostics, troubleshooting in real-world conditions, and demonstrating Seaglider capabilities.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who communicates effectively across disciplines, a creative problem-solver who turns one-off fixes into scalable solutions, and someone adaptable to the fast-paced startup environment. You should be driven by curiosity and passionate about continuous improvement.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated experience writing C++ for embedded systems (Linux, RTOS, or bare metal)
- Strong hands-on experience with microcontrollers and common embedded interfaces (Serial, SPI, CAN, PWM, ADCs, DIO)
- Ability to read, interpret, and contribute to wiring diagrams and electrical schematics
- Comfortable scripting with Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- LabVIEW or Simulink for DAQ and HIL systems
- Actuation systems (servo motors)
- Field-testing and electronics troubleshooting in real-world environments
- Safety-critical application development
- Aerospace or automotive standards (DO-178C, ISO 26262)
