Infleqtion is a global quantum technology company developing quantum computers, sensors, and networks. This role is part of their UK expansion, based in Kidlington, Oxford, with flexible working allowing up to 2 days per week remote.
You will develop embedded control, acquisition, timing, and communications systems for quantum-enabled RF sensors and deployable sensing products. Working closely with physicists, electronics engineers, FPGA specialists, systems engineers, and software engineers, you'll take designs from requirements through implementation, characterization, integration, and deployment.
Key technical responsibilities include:
- Develop embedded Linux software, firmware, and board-support packages for FPGA-based embedded systems, particularly Xilinx FPGA SoC platforms, using C/C++, Rust, and related tools
- Deploy embedded Linux distributions using Yocto, Buildroot, or similar tools
- Develop device-tree configurations, low-level drivers, and hardware interfaces for FPGA peripherals, sensors, communications devices, and microcontroller subsystems
- Integrate FPGA SoC platforms, microcontrollers, electronics, and higher-level software into robust systems
- Perform board bring-up, hardware-firmware integration, automated testing, debugging, and validation using Python and benchtop equipment
- Produce reliable, maintainable software and clear technical documentation from prototype through deployment
You'll collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, communicate technical risks and design decisions clearly, adapt to changing requirements, and take ownership of work from requirements definition through delivery.
Core requirements: strong embedded Linux development on FPGA SoC platforms; experience configuring and deploying embedded Linux distributions using Yocto or BuildRoot; board bring-up, bootloader, Linux kernel, device-tree configuration, and driver experience; C/C++ and Rust development; Xilinx tools (ideally Vivado); experience with Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, GPIO, DMA, ADC, and DAC interfaces; Python for test automation; Git and CI systems proficiency.
Desirable: FPGA development with VHDL or Verilog on Xilinx; high-throughput data acquisition and multi-core processing; RF sensing, timing, synchronization, or signal-processing systems; networked instrumentation protocols (SCPI, VXI-11/LXI, MQTT, gRPC, REST APIs); systems and requirements engineering; CI/CD pipeline management.
Up to 10% travel, including international, may be required. Work in office and laboratory environments.
