Bedrock Robotics is deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment across the country. The Onboard Infrastructure team builds the embedded software foundation that powers Bedrock's autonomous machines, enabling them to scale across multiple machine types, variations, and environments while operating reliably in harsh conditions far from support. You will architect, build, and own major areas of the embedded safety controller that serves as the main interface between Bedrock's autonomy system and the heavy machinery it controls. This is safety-critical software running on resource-constrained, real-time systems. Key responsibilities include: - Building safety-critical software that controls the base machine and monitors system health, with strict isolation and deterministic real-time execution - Developing across the full embedded software stack: drivers, RTOS, communication protocols, middleware, and applications - Interfacing with and controlling a broad range of heavy machinery across different manufacturers, designing abstractions that keep the system flexible and portable - Extending the platform to embedded devices that keep machines operational in the field (power management, sensor cleaning, lighting, etc.) Required qualifications: - Proven experience building and shipping embedded systems in robotics, automotive, drones, or other safety-critical contexts - Strong embedded programming in C++ or Rust, plus Python fluency for scripting and analysis - Solid foundation in software for resource-constrained systems with real-time requirements - Comfortable developing, automating, and debugging across the hardware/software boundary - Track record of leading projects, driving design decisions, and collaborating across hardware, autonomy, and platform teams Preferred: Production Rust experience, familiarity with automotive/industrial protocols (CAN, Ethernet, J1939), experience with functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, DO-178C). Bedrock has raised $350M in two years and achieved the first fully autonomous excavator deployments in construction. The team includes veterans from Waymo, Segment, and Uber Freight.
