Salary: USD 130,000 - 175,000 / annual
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military with dedicated, secure networks. As an Embedded Software Engineer on the Network Software team, you will develop and maintain flight software that commands and monitors spacecraft. Your responsibilities include architecting and implementing software for the Flight Computer and Earth Stations Hub, developing firmware for satellite control boards, and ensuring reliable systems through requirements generation, continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews.
You will work across multiple teams including Payload, Communications, Ground Control, and Telemetry to integrate software with custom hardware. The role involves developing in modern C++ to interface with flight computers and control boards, delivering complex projects through incremental development, and mentoring junior engineers.
This position contributes to both commercial and US Government space programs. You'll work on high-availability, high-reliability systems with stringent requirements for uptime, data security, and network visibility.
Required: 2-4+ years developing software for products in modern C++ or C; familiarity with software development methodologies and design patterns; experience with communication protocols (TCP/IP, I2C, SPI); strong communication and written skills; passion for space technology; experience building high-availability/high-reliability systems.
Bonus qualifications: Python experience; embedded Linux/POSIX systems; VxWorks, Linux, FreeRTOS, or QNX development; production software shipping experience; safety-critical development (FDA, FAA, Automotive); board bringup and hardware-software integration/debugging.
