Salary: USD 115,000 - 140,000 / annual
Flock Safety is scaling a fleet of custom aerial devices and real-time drone systems that support criminal investigations and missing person cases. As an Embedded Software Engineer II, you will own core platform components for a Yocto-based embedded Linux distribution running on resource-constrained drone and camera hardware.
You will implement and deliver C and C++ software components for the embedded Linux platform, conduct lab-based bring-up and debugging on real drone hardware, and identify and resolve software defects and hardware integration issues in both development and field deployments. You'll document system architectures and technical designs, author automation scripts in Python or Bash, and contribute to CI/CD workflows to improve build systems.
This is a low-level systems role, not a high-level application layer position. You'll work directly with Yocto build layers, bootloaders like U-Boot, kernel configuration, and system-level code. You should have proficiency in C and C++ within embedded Linux environments, hands-on experience with Yocto or similar build systems (Buildroot, OpenEmbedded), and understanding of low-level Linux concepts including bootloaders and shell scripting. Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins), and familiarity with Rust for embedded systems, Qualcomm SoCs, ARM architectures, or Linux device drivers is a plus.
