Impulse is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, implement, and maintain firmware for image capture and processing systems on spacecraft. This role sits at the intersection of hardware and software, requiring deep expertise in low-level embedded systems and camera interfaces.
Key responsibilities include developing low-level drivers and control software for camera modules using industry-standard interfaces such as MIPI CSI-2, USB, SPI, and I2C. You will interface with both commercial and custom image sensors, implementing robust and efficient data pipelines that can withstand the harsh conditions of space operations. The role involves implementing camera configuration, triggering, and synchronization logic to ensure precise timing and data integrity.
You will support data capture and streaming during ground tests and in-flight operations, collaborating closely with avionics, flight software, and GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) engineers. Working with image processing and perception teams, you'll define firmware requirements and APIs that enable higher-level systems to leverage camera data effectively. You'll also contribute to hardware bring-up, debugging, and tuning of camera subsystems in hardware-in-the-loop test environments.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. You should have 2+ years of professional experience writing C/C++ code for embedded systems, ideally with exposure to imaging or robotic applications. Demonstrated proficiency with debugging tools—oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, hardware debuggers, and source-level debuggers—is essential, as is a solid understanding of I2C, SPI, and MIPI-based camera interfaces.
