As an Embedded Software Engineer at Impulse, you will develop code for custom avionics hardware that executes critical flight and ground test functions. You'll collaborate with avionics hardware engineers, guidance/navigation/control (GNC) specialists, propulsion engineers, and cross-functional teams to build performant, maintainable solutions across the full spacecraft development lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
• Implement and optimize low-level processor functions, including peripheral control and communication interface setup
• Develop closed-loop control algorithms for physical processes and failure detection/response systems (e.g., sensor anomalies, radiation upsets)
• Provide technical guidance on new system architectures from an embedded software perspective
• Write rapid prototype code to support avionics and propulsion device development and testing
• Author rigorous, reviewed, and thoroughly tested code for manufacturing and flight operations
You'll have exposure to diverse aspects of spacecraft development: system architecture, rapid prototyping, rigorous flight-qualified projects, and hands-on hardware control during ground testing.
Required qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software development experience
• 1+ years of professional experience writing C/C++ for embedded systems or vehicles (robots, cars, drones, spacecraft, or similar)
