Aalyria, a leading aerospace technology company with laser communications and software-defined networking platforms, is seeking an Embedded Real-Time Controls Engineer to design and implement the wavefront-correction subsystem for high-throughput atmospheric laser communications between Earth and space.
You will develop real-time closed-loop control at the heart of the adaptive optics subsystem for Free Space Optical Communications terminals. Working closely with the analytical team that develops correction approaches, you'll translate candidate control methods into robust, low-latency embedded implementations. Your responsibilities include implementing wavefront-correction control laws and DSP algorithms as low-latency embedded C code, designing and building lab testbeds and data acquisition systems to validate loop bandwidth and performance, and driving down loop latency while improving uptime and reliability.
You'll develop control, monitoring, and telemetry software across the full lifecycle—from concept through design, integration, test, and release—and support the transition of prototype and test infrastructure to manufacturing. Throughout, you'll collaborate with optical, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, and contribute to control-related technical requirements.
Required qualifications include a degree in EE, controls, CS, physics, or related field plus 3+ years developing real-time, closed-loop embedded control systems on hardware. You need strong control fundamentals and hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink for design, analysis, and simulation. You must demonstrate proven ability to convert control laws, digital filters, and DSP into embedded C and debug them on real hardware, with comfort in nonlinear behavior and practical stabilization techniques.
