Anduril Industries is seeking an Embedded Linux Software Engineer to own the DeviceOS platform that powers autonomous robotic systems deployed across land, sea, and air. This role sits at the critical boundary between custom hardware and software, where you will be responsible for the entire boot chain, device tree configuration, kernel drivers, and hardware enablement for deployed robotics operating in challenging field environments. You will own the boot sequence end-to-end on deployed compute platforms, from low-level firmware (EDK2/U-Boot) through unified kernel images, encrypted storage, and handoff to NixOS. You will customize and maintain vendor Board Support Packages (BSPs) from NVIDIA Jetson, NXP, and other silicon vendors, reconciling them with modern NixOS package sets and producing kernel and device tree patches when custom hardware behavior is required. A core responsibility is ensuring deterministic hardware availability—guaranteeing that all peripherals including electro-optical/infrared cameras, radars, motor controllers, CAN networks, and radios are reliably enumerated and fully operational across boots and platform upgrades. You will sustain a long-lived baseline for signed boot chains and disk encryption as firmware, kernels, and package sets evolve. This includes triaging and remediating CVEs in vendor kernels and low-level components on systems already deployed in the field. You will build and maintain automated Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test suites to catch regressions in power states, bus communication, and platform stability before code reaches flight or field hardware. Deep hardware/software root-cause analysis is a core skill—diagnosing intermittent bus errors, thermal and power throttling, kernel panics, and boot hangs using serial consoles, logic analyzers, and hardware schematics. You will also triage upstream kernel and vendor BSP issues, produce patches when no upstream fix is forthcoming, and carry patch sets forward as the platform evolves. This is a high-impact role where firmware regressions are not just failing tests but physical units that field teams must service. You will work on systems powering autonomous aerial vehicles (Ghost, Anvil, Bolt, Altius) and autonomous Sentry Towers that safeguard borders and critical infrastructure. REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of professional embedded Linux platform experience, sustainment of deployed embedded Linux platforms, or kernel-adjacent integration experience - Deep understanding of the embedded Linux boot chain: firmware/bootloaders (U-Boot, EDK2), device trees, kernel command line, initrd/initramfs, and root filesystem assembly - Strong programming skills in C (for kernel/driver development and BSP patching) and proficiency in Rust or C++ for userspace platform integration and services - Hands-on experience debugging hardware at the bench: using serial consoles, reading schematics and component datasheets, and tracing issues to the board level - Experience maintaining software deployed on real-world hardware, where updates must be safe, resilient to bricking, and strictly validated against regressions - U.S. Person status required due to export control regulations (ITAR/EAR), with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Nix/NixOS experience for declarative embedded systems builds, or deep Yocto/Buildroot expertise with appetite to transition to modern reproducible paradigms - NVIDIA Jetson/Tegra depth: hands-on experience with JetPack, Jetson Linux BSP, Tegra boot architecture, or CUDA compute runtime integration - Low-level platform security: practical implementation of hardware root-of-trust, secure boot, HAB/AHAB, or measured boot (TPM) - Automated HIL testing: experience architecting automated test benches using Python or Bash to validate embedded Linux builds against physical test targets - Familiarity with functional programming paradigms (e.g., Nix, Haskell) - Upstream open-source contributions to the Linux kernel, U-Boot, or system-level open-source projects
