As an Embedded Linux Software Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining custom Linux images for on-board autonomy computers, including bootloader, kernel, and root filesystem configuration. You will configure, customize, and patch the Linux kernel, develop custom device drivers, and manage device trees for target hardware. A key part of the role involves implementing system security features such as secure boot, encryption, and firewall rules, while optimizing memory, boot time, and CPU utilization for resource-constrained embedded systems.
You will build automation scripts and test frameworks in Python or Bash, integrating them with CI/CD pipelines to ensure robust and repeatable deployments. Close collaboration with the hardware team is essential—you will define requirements, read schematics, bring up new boards, and debug hardware issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience. You must have solid embedded software development experience in Linux environments, strong proficiency in C and/or C++, and deep knowledge of Linux kernel architecture, device trees, and user-space/kernel-space interactions. Hands-on experience with high-speed hardware interfaces (PCIe, MIPI CSI-2, USB 3.x) and low-speed peripheral protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN) is required, along with proficiency in debugging tools and version control/CI/CD practices.
Nice-to-have skills include NVIDIA Jetson platform experience, Yocto Project and BitBake expertise, real-time Linux (PREEMPT_RT) knowledge, bare-metal or RTOS microcontroller firmware development, camera and sensor pipeline work, and experience in safety-critical systems (aviation, automotive, robotics).
