Overland AI, founded in 2022 and headquartered in Seattle, is transforming land operations for modern defense through autonomous ground vehicles. The company has developed the OverDrive autonomy stack, which enables vehicles to navigate and operate off-road in any terrain without GPS or direct operator control, and the OverWatch C2 interface for commander coordination. Backed by prominent defense tech investors including 8VC and Point 72, with partnerships across DARPA, the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command, Overland AI is executing eight-figure Department of Defense contracts. You will join the vehicle production team as an Embedded Software Engineer, owning the integration between hardware and software on autonomous ground vehicles. This is a deeply hands-on role on the production floor, bridging firmware, electrical systems, and autonomy software. You will work alongside mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to solve mission-critical problems spanning the full lifecycle of embedded systems: from requirements definition and architecture through development, testing, and end-to-end technical support. Key responsibilities include: - Architect, design, and develop embedded firmware for vehicle subsystems and autonomy hardware interfaces - Develop firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded compute platforms - Own hardware-software integration: bring up new boards, sensors, and peripherals; ensure reliable communication with the autonomy stack - Debug and troubleshoot issues spanning electrical, firmware, and software boundaries, often hands-on with vehicles - Write and execute test plans for validation, performance characterization, and production acceptance - Collaborate with electrical engineering on microcontroller selection, schematic review, and hardware validation - Define and implement communication protocols and interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, serial, etc.) - Develop diagnostics, health monitoring, and fault-handling firmware for field reliability - Assess design risks and develop mitigation strategies across hardware-firmware boundaries - Create and maintain technical documentation including interface specifications, test procedures, and integration guides - Conduct design reviews for hardware/electronic systems and code reviews for firmware - Support production builds by developing tools, test fixtures, and automated validation - Drive continuous improvement through hands-on experience and feedback from test and production teams Requirements: - Minimum qualifications section present in original posting but truncated in provided excerpt; specific requirements not fully visible in the text provided
