Marvel Fusion, Europe's leading fusion energy company founded in 2019, is seeking an experienced Electronic Systems Physicist to establish and lead the electronics development stream for advanced particle and radiation diagnostics. The role focuses on detector and camera systems for ion, electron, neutron, and X/gamma-ray measurements operating in high-field experimental environments where standard instrumentation is unreliable due to strong electromagnetic pulses.
This position establishes a new technical capability within the company, offering the opportunity to shape it from inception. The successful candidate will develop next-generation camera and detector systems for harsh experimental environments, extend them toward higher repetition rates and reactor-relevant conditions, and support the wider diagnostics portfolio. Clear opportunities exist to grow the electronics activity into a dedicated sub-team and lead the transition from experimental prototypes to deployable, industry-ready systems.
Responsibilities span the full electronics chain: sensor front-ends, high-speed readout, triggering and timing, FPGA firmware, and host-side acquisition and control software. As the first dedicated electronics specialist in a team covering mechanical engineering, experimental physics, and electromagnetic pulse expertise, you will make and execute key technical decisions in your domain.
Required qualifications include an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline, plus 5+ years of hands-on experience developing scientific or industrial electronic systems. Essential skills include FPGA firmware development (VHDL/Verilog), image sensor/detector readout experience with high-speed interfaces (LVDS/SLVS), board-level design expertise covering high-speed digital signaling and signal integrity, and proficiency in C/C++ and Python. You must independently scope technical questions, conduct technology evaluations, and make design decisions with incomplete information. Laboratory instrumentation expertise (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG) and ability to work independently in laboratory and remote deployment settings are required. Professional English proficiency is essential.
Nice-to-have experience includes detector/DAQ electronics from accelerator, laser, fusion, or space research facilities, and expertise mitigating electromagnetic pulse and interference effects in pulsed-power or high-field environments.
