This Electro-Mechanical Engineer role is based at Anduril's Costa Mesa headquarters and focuses on early-stage R&D development for complex systems. You will work on mechanical structures, batteries, mechanisms, actuators, motors, power systems, PCBAs, sensors, and payloads. The position requires high ownership and autonomy to prove concept feasibility and build Anduril's earliest-stage prototypes. Success demands a practical, hands-on, self-starter mindset.
Key responsibilities include: executing rapid evaluation of engineering concepts across diverse fields; identifying and managing early vendor relationships; performing trade studies and physics-based analysis of blue-sky engineering problems; managing internal and external market research; designing, implementing, and testing complex electro-mechanical systems; leading design reviews and running analysis; visiting vendors and defining hardware test plans; building and testing prototypes; analyzing failures; transitioning successful projects toward production; supporting critical hardware demonstrations with customers and internal leaders; traveling to test sites, vendors, and demos as needed; and applying first-principles physics to every decision.
Required qualifications: 3+ years of mechanical and/or electrical design experience in professional settings; experience in immersive technical projects (collegiate or professional); demonstrated leadership, ownership, and autonomy; CAD skills (any platform) with ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings meeting industry standards; PCB design and ECAD experience (Altium, KiCAD, etc.); high competence with engineering first principles; strong organizational skills; BS, MS, or PhD in engineering or equivalent work experience; eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS clearance.
Preferred qualifications include: NX and Teamcenter PLM experience; advanced design skills for machining, composites, sheet metal, injection molding; hands-on prototyping experience; practical experience with electrical engineering tools; experience with power systems, battery management, PCBA design, wiring harness design, controls, robotics, motor/servo drive systems; microcontroller design familiarity; ability to read and manipulate schematics and wiring diagrams; firmware/software experience; experience developing electronics hardware products (UAVs, wearables, high-power electric propulsion, optical systems); and microcontroller communication protocol experience.
