Fluidstack is building civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure, acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at unprecedented speed and scale. The Electrical Equipment Design team is responsible for defining the electrical equipment powering the largest AI compute buildout in history.
In this role, you will own product architecture across the LV/MV switchgear, BBU (battery backup unit), and busway lineup, including the frame-size and bus-rating matrix that covers 90% of demand with the fewest SKUs. You will run the certification strategy end-to-end: managing NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) relationships, sequencing test campaigns, booking labs, and budgeting for the real cost of failed tests. You will lead the gear design team across electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, controls, and drafting, making team structure and staffing decisions as the lineup grows.
Key responsibilities include setting the ratings philosophy for the lineup (short-circuit, withstand, and temperature-rise design standards) rigorous enough to pass witness testing on the first campaign, and making make-vs-buy recommendations per product category backed by cost, schedule, and certification-risk analysis. You will decide what to design in-house, co-develop with OEMs, or simply buy, converging the lineup on the minimum set of frame sizes and bus ratings.
You bring 12+ years in switchgear and electrical equipment design, with experience leading design teams at major OEMs such as Powell, IEM, Eaton, or ABB. You have personally taken gear through UL 891/1558 or IEC 61439 listing, including witness testing at KEMA or PowerTech-class labs. You have lived through a short-circuit test failure, driven it to root cause, and led the redesign that passed retest. You understand how to structure a multi-person gear team, knowing which seats can double up and where to prioritize first hires as the lineup expands. You can defend a ratings philosophy against both test labs and cost targets. Bonus experience includes BBU or energy storage integration, busway products, arc-resistant designs, or deep NRTL relationships.
