Sphero is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead the electrical engineering team in a player-coach role. You will manage and mentor a small team of electrical engineers while remaining hands-on as the senior electrical engineer on embedded systems and consumer electronics products. Key responsibilities include leading the complete electrical product development lifecycle—from concept and electrical architecture through schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, testing, certification, and production. You'll translate product requirements into electrical designs using Altium Designer, validate designs through simulation and testing, and evaluate technical risks and design tradeoffs. You'll conduct cross-functional design reviews, drive resolution of technical challenges, and ensure designs meet manufacturability, reliability, quality, and regulatory compliance standards. As an engineering leader, you'll mentor and develop your team through coaching, technical guidance, and career development. You'll set technical direction, establish priorities, and balance workload across concurrent projects. You'll foster best practices through design reviews and knowledge sharing, and support hiring and onboarding. You'll collaborate closely with Product Management, Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Software, Quality, and Manufacturing teams. You'll work directly with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners, suppliers, and Field Application Engineers to support product development and production. Travel to Asia approximately 1-2 times per year is expected. Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; 8–12+ years in electrical engineering, embedded systems, or consumer electronics; 2+ years leading or managing electrical engineers; proven experience designing and launching embedded hardware or consumer electronics from concept through production; hands-on experience with Altium Designer, electrical architecture, schematic capture, and PCB design; experience with BLE or wireless communication; battery and power management design; robotic systems integration; DFM and sustaining engineering; contract manufacturer collaboration; electrical certification and regulatory standards (FCC, children's product safety standards preferred); cross-functional collaboration; ability to hand solder and prototype PCBs including fine-pitch components; strong communication skills in remote-first environments; willingness to travel internationally.
