Saronic Technologies, a leader in autonomous surface vessels for maritime defense, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Radio Frequency (RF) systems to join the Electrical Engineering – Advanced Development group.
This technically demanding, research-focused role centers on the evaluation, design, and integration of RF communications and sensing technologies for autonomous vessel networks. You will lead R&D efforts across radio transceivers, radar systems, antennas, and related electronics operating across multiple frequency bands (VHF/UHF, L/S/C/X bands).
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading R&D in RF communications, radar, and electronic sensing for autonomous surface vessels
- Evaluating and benchmarking RF hardware and subsystems across multiple frequency bands
- Conducting trade studies and comparative analyses of commercial and military-grade RF solutions
- Designing, prototyping, and testing RF systems and electrical architectures (cabling, shielding, power interfaces)
- Modeling RF propagation and link performance in maritime and littoral environments
- Collaborating cross-functionally with autonomy, software, and mechanical teams
- Developing test procedures and performing validation trials under operational conditions
- Authoring technical reports, design specifications, and performance evaluations
- Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the RF technology roadmap
- Supporting field testing and vessel trials, including dockside and at-sea operations
Required qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related discipline
- 7+ years of professional experience in RF system design, testing, and integration (preferably maritime, automotive, aerospace, or defense)
- Deep understanding of RF theory, antenna design, and signal propagation including real-world marine effects
- Hands-on experience with RF instrumentation (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, power meters)
- Proven ability to conduct trade studies and technology benchmarking
- Familiarity with communications protocols (Ethernet, CAN, serial) and wireless standards (LTE, SATCOM, mesh networking)
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in lab and field test environments
Note: This role requires U.S. Person status due to access to export-controlled information.
