Valar Atomics is a Series A advanced nuclear company focused on making clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is building factory-made, rapidly deployable nuclear systems with a pilot plant planned for Orangeville, Utah. You will join the Electrical Engineering team within the Fuel Manufacturing engineering group, supporting the design and delivery of medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. This role offers hands-on experience with complex electrical infrastructure in the advanced nuclear sector, working alongside instrumentation & control (I&C), mechanical, and nuclear safety engineers. Key responsibilities include: - Developing and maintaining electrical load lists and conducting power system studies (load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting, harmonic analysis) using tools like SKM Power Tools or ETAP - Preparing arc flash hazard analysis (IEEE 1584) and substation grounding calculations (IEEE 80) - Sizing and selecting transformers, cables, switchgear, bus systems, capacitor banks, UPS systems, and batteries - Creating and updating single-line diagrams for MV/LV distribution from utility interface through motor control centers and final distribution - Developing electrical equipment layouts, cable schedules, cable tray routing, and underground duct bank designs - Supporting specifications and datasheets for major electrical equipment - Assisting with electrical area classification drawings for hazardous locations (NEC/CEC 500 or IEC 60079) - Conducting protection coordination studies, relay settings, and metering equipment selection - Developing electrical drawings including relay panels, DC control schematics, and MCC wiring diagrams - Reviewing vendor drawings, calculations, and technical documentation - Supporting commissioning activities including insulation testing, continuity checks, and relay secondary injection - Coordinating with I&C engineers on motor and control interfaces and with civil/structural teams on layouts and cable routing - Participating in design reviews, HAZOPs, and constructability reviews - Resolving technical questions from vendors, contractors, and field teams This is a first-of-a-kind industrial facility opportunity with significant technical depth in nuclear-grade electrical systems design.
