Form Energy is a manufacturing and energy technology company developing long-duration iron-air battery systems for grid-scale energy storage. The company has been recognized by TIME, MIT Technology Review, and Fast Company for its breakthrough technology, and is now scaling production at its West Virginia manufacturing facility.
You will join the BMS Hardware & Electrical System team as a Control Panel Designer II, responsible for the full lifecycle of industrial control panel design. This includes component selection, schematic development, vendor coordination, and high-voltage validation. You will work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to deliver panels that meet the highest safety and compliance standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Design control panels in compliance with NEC (NFPA 70) and UL 508A standards
- Develop complete control panel schematics, layouts, and BOMs using EPLAN
- Select appropriate control panel components including connectors, wire harnesses, branch circuit protection devices (breakers, fuses), and power conversion devices (drives, transformers, rectifiers)
- Select components rated for 600V AC and 2000V DC high-voltage applications
- Work directly with third-party panel vendors to translate design intent into built assemblies
- Execute and oversee high-voltage testing procedures including hipot, insulation resistance, and functional validation
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on panel enclosure selection, thermal management, and physical integration
- Support DFMEA activities for panel-level failure mode identification and risk mitigation
Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, comprehensive benefits including 100% medical/dental/vision premiums for employees (80% for dependents), at least 12 weeks paid parental leave (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents), and generous vacation policies. Relocation assistance is available.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree with some experience
- Understanding of panel design software (EPLAN or equivalent)
- Some experience designing panels to NEC and UL 508A requirements
- Hands-on experience in high-voltage testing procedures and associated safety protocols
- Working knowledge of branch protection coordination, wire sizing, and power conversion device integration
- Familiarity with PLM software (e.g., Arena or Team Center), product development software (e.g., JIRA), and requirement management tools (e.g., JAMA)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
